Smart IoT Campus: Hands-Free Attendance with Long-Range UHF RFID

Every student carries an EduVision Pro smart ID card with a passive UHF RFID tag.

  • Student walks through the gate.
  • Reader picks up the card from a distance.
  • Direction decides In or Out.

The Challenge

The challenge

Morning roll call was taking [X] minutes of teaching time every day across [X] sections. Biometric devices at the gate created queues at peak arrival, and buses unloading together made it worse. Parents had no confirmation that their child had actually reached school, and the office spent the first hour of each day calling about absentees.

The school wanted attendance that happens on its own, as students walk in, with no queue, no touch and no teacher time.

The Solution

The solution: attendance that marks itself

Every student carries an EduVision Pro smart ID card with a passive UHF RFID tag. The card needs no battery and no charging. Long-range UHF readers are mounted at key points across the campus, and each read is sent to EduVision Pro in real time.

How it works:

  1. 1

    Student walks through the gate

The card stays in a pocket, bag or lanyard. Nobody needs to stop or tap.

  2. 2

Reader picks up the card from a distance

Fixed UHF readers read cards several metres away, and can read many cards at once as a group walks through.

  3. 3

    Direction decides In or Out

Paired antennas at the gate detect which way the student is moving, so the system records an In time on arrival and an Out time on departure.

  4. 4

    EduVision Pro marks attendance automatically

The read is matched to the student's profile and their attendance is marked for the day, with no teacher action.

  5. 5

    Parents are notified instantly

The parent app shows "Reached school at 7:42 a.m." and "Left school at 2:15 p.m."

  6. 6

    Exceptions are flagged

Students with no In read by cut-off time are marked absent, and parents get an alert. An Out read during school hours without a gate pass alerts the office.

More Detail

More than the main gate

Because readers can be placed anywhere, the same card works across the campus:

  • School bus: boarding and drop-off confirmation, shared with parents
  • Classroom blocks: period-wise or block-wise presence without roll call
  • Library: automatic entry log, linked to the library module
  • Hostel: night check-in and late-return alerts for wardens
  • Staff entry: staff In and Out times flowing straight into payroll
